All part of the job....?

Last week started with a bit of a confidence crisis, a low mood, a questioning whether or not I'm on the right track,
Familiar territory in a way,
....particularly when I'm faced with the next step...
....something I'm not quite sure how to do...

Questions arose..."can I do this?...do I want to do this? what would I do if I didn't do this,"
Sound familiar?

Thank heavens for good friends! ...Friends who have projects of their own and who are very familiar with sometime being stopped in their creative tracks.

So, over cups of coffee, a lunch and a takeaway dinner, my life and theirs were thrashed out. And in the end, goals were affirmed and ways forward mapped out.

I hope I helped them as much as they helped me.

I also got a bit of help from one of my old favorite books, like The Artist's Way, by Julia Cameron.

....visited online with some of my favorite artists...

... and listened to some pod-casts by my current favorite Smart Creative Women

And then, at last, there was the moment when an idea popped into my head.
I felt that wonderful and welcome spark of enthusiasm and optimism as an idea starts to take hold.

Lethargy became energy.

Do you have ways of getting out of the creative doldrums?
New ideas and strategies welcome :)

p.s. I also picked my first little crop of pumpkins! Pumpkin soup coming soon!

  1. Yes I hear this. Yes Julia Cameron, a way back home. Just picked it up myself yesterday. Keep on Jill, your work is very beautiful and there must be a place in the world for it and you.

Printing on hessian...

Here's a few samples of  the new placemats and coasters I've been developing over the past couple of weeks.
The designs are printed on hessian and the edges zig-zagged  to stop fraying. They're fun to make and I have a few more designs too that I'll show you in a day or two as I complete them.
These ones have a nice, relaxed summer vibe. I hope you like them.

So, now that I've figured out the designs it won't be long till I have some in my online shop.

100 days of doodling....

A couple of days ago, a friend of mine told me about a website where people commit to doing ...something....

...sketching...photography....painting....writing....

...each day for 100 days.

Unfortunately, that particular 100 day project has closed and the people on it are up to day 34 already, so I've decided to do my own version.

What I want to do ...for 100 days...is get out my black ink pen and draw...something...everyday for 100 days.

doodle #1
I'm often having a little whinge to myself that I don't do enough drawing and designing...so...

here goes...

It feels exciting...and who knows what new fabric designs may come out of it? But I don't really want to have too many goals or set directions. I'll just see where it goes....

My friend Terri is joining me in this challenge!

How about you? interested??

P.S. Take a look the page I have created called 100 days of doodling to see all the doodles I have done so far.

I'm back ...on track...

Hello, it's been a while!
Life got a bit hectic there for a while, caring for elderly parents, one of whom is very ill. So of course it still is really busy, but new routines have emerged to cope with it all.
And I have taken a few days off during the past month and being rested helps a lot too. I got a bit too tired toward the end of last year and that wasn't much fun. But sometimes those bad times can instigate some good changes. It certainly has this time. I feel like I have strengthened my boundaries regarding my social life and prioritized eating well and getting enough sleep. Already I am feeling huge benefits. The challenge will be to keep these good things going! But I'm feeling determined and optimistic.
As part of an effort to bring more balance to my life I am now trying to limit my gardening business to mornings only. That means I have more flexibility to help my parents. And when I'm not required I'm going to use the time to put more time and energy i…
