When the weather is fine, and I have free time, I tend to get out into the garden. But with the weather being so miserable lately, I've spent a lot more time indoors, where other interests have beckoned.
I've already mentioned doing a bit of bead work. Well, I've also done a bit of sewing. Last night I made a top from some fabric I've had for a few years and hadn't got around to doing anything with it.
...and I've begun knitting...for the first time in a couple of decades! Seeing all the lovely work done by fellow bloggers has put me in the mood. A couple of weeks ago a friend gave me some wool. So...I'm knitting a scarf. I'm slow and unpracticed, but I'm enjoying doing it. The simple pattern means I can just do it here and there, without much thought, just enjoying the meditative quality of 2 pearl, 2 plain, 2 pearl, 2 plain....
As I write I have done about 25 cm. It's going to take me a while. By next winter perhaps? :)
A few years ago I did a workshop in making bead earrings. I loved it.
At the time I was working in a store that sold gift and accessories...all sorts of gorgeous, feminine things. So I developed a little sideline making bead earrings and selling them in the shop. When the shop closed I stopped making the earrings.
Lately I have been thinking about making earrings again, So over the weekend I got out my beading box and made a couple. I'm no jeweler, there's something really satisfying about being able to make a pair of earrings to match whatever I'm wearing.
I'd like to learn more about beading. Perhaps I could branch out into bracelets or necklaces...? Last night I had a look at the books available on the subject on Amazon. But I think I'd prefer to do some more courses until I know more about the various techniques.
Anyway...I'm looking forward to whiling a way a few winters evenings playing with beads.
I've been wanting to make some cushions for a while now...
but because of one thing and another (excuses, excuses :) )...
I never got around to it.
This one has a handprinted linen front and the black back is drill.
