Hydrangea design...

Last week I had a session printing my hydrangea design. So, more greeting cards coming soon.  The hydrangea design has been printed in creamy yellow on various colours of poplin. I'm loving these pretty spring colours at the moment.

Have a wonderful week! Jill xx

100 days project, Day 89...

Painting finished at last!

Jill xx

It's been a busy week....

Lots of time in the studio this week...making product, designing labels and taking lots of photos and loading up my online shop.
I've also been continuing with the 100 days project, where I have committed to a regime of painting daily. I'll share some photos of what I've been painting in my next blog update.  In the meantime, have a fabulous weekend!

Day 75...100 days project...

I finished this painting last 75.

It's been so interesting participating in the 100 days project this year. It has really taken over my life. It's a huge commitment. But I'm not complaining. I'm loving it. I find that I am looking forward to my evenings spent painting at my kitchen table. I love the feeling of concentration and immersion. I don't love every painting I have done while on the project, in fact there is one I really don't particularly like at all. But I feel like I'm getting closer to painting the way I want to paint.
I remember a discussion with a friend, years ago, who wanted to learn to paint, and we decided that she should paint 20 paintings, and by the end she would surely have improved a lot and have found her sense of painting style. At the time I remember thinking that I ought to do that myself, but I never gave myself the time to do so.
Well, I think I'm ready to take up that challenge. 6 complete so far. Do I have t…

100 Days Project, Day 70...

Day 70 of the 100 days project and here is the latest painting I've been working on.
Yesterday I mapped out the leaves...a bit nervously, but also with a bit of 'what the heck' attitude. I can always paint over or wipe out mistakes!
I think this project is gradually teaching me to just get in and do something. Even if it's a mistake it's better than procrastinating.

So, here's to a week of "Just get in there and do it...just try!"

100 days project, painting #5 complete...

Each new painting is a learning experience, and of course when I finish each painting I'm pleased with some aspects, and critical of others.  But such is the nature of the 100 days project and the painting daily practice, there's not a lot of time to dwell.
Painting #6 is calling me... :)

Still in the game...just...!

It's day 65 of the 100 days project and the task I've set myself is to paint daily.
Well, I almost have... I'm 2 days behind.
So I've decided it's okay if I do a couple of separate painting sessions during the next couple of days, that will catch me up and I'll be on track again. Not precisely painting every day, and not precisely doing the project to the letter, but it's been a bit challenging in the past 10 days or so with a parent being in hospital and then myself getting a cold.

The painting above is the one I'm working on at the moment...

This one I thought I had finished on day 40, then added the striped tablecloth and a couple of other details on day 57.

And this one is waiting in the wings, under painting done, soon to be worked on gain.
Hope you're having a good week! Jill xx

Day 50!

I can't believe I've been painting everyday for 50 days as part of the 100 days project.
This is the 5th canvas I've painted while doing the project. I've still got a way to go before finishing it, but I'm enjoying the process.

I found myself holding my breath while I was painting the pattern on the table cloth on this painting as a  way to make my hands steadier :)
Hope you all have a lovely week! Jill xx

Drying time...

I've spent most of my painting time this week doing the under painting of future paintings.
Had a bit of a learning curve when I bought a tube of zinc white instead of titanium white and had to scrub off a couple of days work. Who would have thought it would have made such a difference!?
Now I'm itching to get stuck in to paint more than these blocks of colours...pots, vases, plants?  I've been planning in my head where to go from here, but my plans seem to change daily.  So, we'll see...

These are part of the 100 days of painting project I'm doing. To see more take a look at the 100 days project website.  Cruise around a bit while you're there and look at some of the fabulous projects people from all around the world are doing.

Day 40, Hibiscus painting complete....

On Friday, I finished my fourth 100 days project painting, of a couple of small hibiscus branched placed in a mug.

Last week it was looking a bit touch and go as to whether I continued doing the project. Those leaves seemed to take forever! ...and I was tired! :)
Now that I'm back on track, I can really see the value of trying to do something for 100 days, through tiredness, through a lack of ideas, through boredom. I feel like I'm in training to have a bit of grit and stickablility. Here's hoping anyway!
So, crisis over for the moment and I've spent the last couple of days planning and doing the under painting for the backgrounds of my next couple of paintings.
57 days to go!
The project finishes on the 1st of September, the first day of spring. That means only 57 days of winter left too! Nice thought!

Day 31...100 days project...

I have finished my third painting while doing the 100 days project. The paintings I am doing are in oil and are painted on cotton canvases 35.5cm x 35.5cm.  Tonight, day 32, I begin another...

Just because...

I hope you have a lovely week! Jill xx

Coming along....slowly...

It's now day 27 of the 100 day project and my 3rd painting is slowly evolving. The shapes are mapped out, under painting done. I'll try to spend a bit more time on it this weekend.

Have a lovely weekend! Jillxx

Day 21 of the 100 days project....

Its day 21 of the 100 days project and I've finished two paintings and have some others on the go.
It is a bit of an eye opener to me seeing what I can achieve by consistently painting day after day. Some days I have spent a couple of hours painting, and some days hardly any time at all, But even with limited time it is astonishing how quickly the work accumulates into a finished painting.
The other thing that I am finding really exciting about doing this project is how ideas are starting to flow as a consequence of focusing on painting to a much greater extent than I have for quite some time.
The following two pictures are the paintings I have finished so far...
And these are the 2 paintings I'm still working on...

Little, by little...

Step by step...

Day by day...

A painting...

This year...

I'm really enjoying...

the 100 days project.
In a couple of days I think I'll finish this painting and will be concentrating on the next one.

100 days of painting....

I'm doing the 100 days project again!

Already it's day 7 and I've finished a small painting.  This year I have decided to paint daily, even if it's just for a few minutes. It's all about developing a habit.
If you'd like to see what other people are up to (there are 900 doing it this year!) take a look at the 100 days website...

The link to my page if you'd like to see my day by day progress is here.

Enjoying the sun before winter sets in....

I hope you're having a lovely day too! Jill xx

Geometric print...

Really pleased with my new screen... I printed with it for the first time this afternoon on some cotton voile... grey and white panels on black.

When the prints dry I'm going to make a scarf.

I hope you're having a lovely day! Jill xx
