About

From her home in Auckland , Jill Butler designs and screen prints fabric, which she then makes into homewares, accessories and stationery items.

"My favorite tool is my black pen. It is the starting point for all of my designs. I like to draw on photocopy paper because it's cheep and cheerful. I don't feel pressure to make a perfect drawing first up: mistakes and scribbles are made and abandoned without guilt.

I love gardening so drawing plants and flowers is almost my default setting. But I'm open to anything. Geometrics have intrigued me in the past and lately I have been intrigued by the designs on old plates, tapestries and Chinese embroidery.
Floating around in my head, these are the type of things I love to spend time with, pen in hand, seeing where they take me."
